According to a recent report, Disney+ is developing a WandaVision spinoff centered around the character of Agatha Harkness. The role will be played by Kathryn Hahn, who plays her on WandaVision.
Anonymous sources have described the spinoff as a dark comedy, but plot details are scarce at this time. Jac Schaeffer, the head writer on WandaVision, is set to helm as writer and executive producer on the new series.
In the WandaVision series, Hahn plays Wanda and Vision’s annoying busybody neighbor Agnes. Eventually, Agnes is revealed to have a secret identity as a powerful witch named Agatha Harkness who survived the Salem Witch Trials. In the S1 finale of WandaVision, Wanda (aka Scarlet Witch) traps Agatha in Westview—using magic to force her to resume the persona of Agnes.
Season 1 of WandaVision aired from January through March of this year. One of its twenty-three Emmy nominations went to Hahn, for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series category. One of the songs about Hahn’s character Agatha/Agnes, titled “Agatha All Along” won an Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics.
Hahn, who is represented by Lighthouse Management & Media, Gersh, Schreck Rose, and Narrative, has other projects on her plate as well, including starring in a limited series at Showtime about Joan Rivers. (The series is currently in development.) Other projects include The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV, and Knives Out 2. Hahn has won Emmys for her work on WandaVision as well as for her work on Amazon’s Transparent.
Schaeffer, who is represented by Writ Large, Verve, and Paul Hastings, wrote the animated short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” as well as the feature film The Hustle, starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. She also worked on the story for Marvel’s Black Widow.
