The series was created and written by Steven Kane and Kyle Killen.
Halo is a hugely successful video game series from Bungie for the Xbox. There have been MANY games and spinoffs with a total sale count hitting over 82 million copies and more than six BILLION dollars.
Halo is about a war between humans and an alien race called The Covenant. It is set in the 26th Century; Master Chief John-117 is an elite soldier defending humanity in an attempt to destroy the Halo Array structures that threaten human existence.
Paramount+ dropped the TV show's first trailer. We get to see Master Chief with scars and in a combat uniform. We only hear one line of dialogue: "Hello Master Chief" as the helmet is revealed. The series should air in 2022.
Schreiber is an accomplished actor; he began on HBO's The Wire and has worked on 13 Hours, Den of Thieves, and Skyscraper. He appeared in American Gods as Mad Sweeney and in Orange is the New Black as Pornstache. More recently, he worked on the Apple mini-series Defending Jacob and in First Man.
Halo has been a long time coming; the first whispers of a project were in 2005. A deal fell apart and took a long while to start again. The franchise has branched from video games in the meantime: comics, books, animation... But it was a complex machine to get live-action going. Film and video game studios have fought about large franchise game adaptations, but this new series looks promising.
Of course, if it stumbles, Halo: Infinite comes out in a month.
