Calling a celebrity a phony is like calling the sky blue, but part of fandom is believing the person you like is exactly the amazing individual they present themselves as. So, if you're one of those fans, this thread started by u/0belisktheT on r/AskReddit might ruin some of your dreams.
"Which celebrities do you think are faking their whole personality?" they asked.
Some of the people on the list aren't too surprising if you pay any attention to celebrity gossip. But some of them were a bit disappointing. Of course, there's no proof that any of these rumors or hunches are true, but they'll definitely make you wonder:
1.
Paris Hilton, she's not nearly as air headed as she pretends to be —Teuflisch
2.
Jared Leto. I used to be a huge fan of his band (30 Seconds to Mars) back in the day. He seemed pretty genuine and passionate about art and activism, based on old interviews I had seen. As time has gone on, he seems really self-serving and egotistic, like he sees himself as some profound artist who is changing the world. —gh0stm4k3r
3.
The vast majority of country music stars are not “country” in any sense of the word. Most came from rich families. —BobSacramanto
4.
Kid Rock and Larry the Cable Guy are pretending to be white trash hillbillies when they are actually rich rednecks. —Nice-GuyJon
5.
Almost all heavy metal rockers are anything but moody devil worshipers. It's always been hilarious to me that in reality, Alice Cooper is a soft-spoken Christian. —drygnfyre

You ever talked to someone and their eyes gloss over? Its probably because they're not actually listening to you. This is Ellen. She was probably humble at first when her show managed to grab a big name to appear as a guest. Then as time went on it seemed like she switched to "you should be greatful you're on my show with such a wide audience and I'm doing you a favor", so by the end she didnt give a shit what her guests were saying. She instead cornered them and basically attacked them if they didn't do what she wanted. Miserable human being. —Keudn883
7.
Old skool here: Marilyn Monroe.
She acted like a ditzy blond but behind the scenes she was hella smart and something of a literary buff (one reason she was attracted to Arthur Miller). —HoraceBenbow
8.
James Cordon, you can’t convince me that guy isn’t an asshole —Philcollinsforehead
9.
I used to work for a music industry body. I can confirm DJ Khaled is a total Idiot. I can’t remember the track but he leaked something online that he was involved with to “let it gain traction” and then called us with his team when when it was being pirated everywhere asking us to take all the illegal links down. And asking how this could happen. —The_Pixel-Ninja
10.
Kevin Hart. If you watch that documentary about him, you see the mask slip a little when he loses the “everybody’s BFF” persona for a minute and is a REAL scumbag to one of his boys going on a completely unprovoked tirade about how “without ME, you’re NOTHING”.
Tom Cruise clearly.
The Rock seems too good to be true to me, but I have nothing to hang it on other than a gut feeling. —UnclePepe
11.
Bill Murray talked about how you only have like two years in Hollywood to get your shit together. This was in reference to Chevy Chase and how his career fell apart. You can be a diva and an asshole as long as your movies turn a considerable profit. The second your movies start to bomb the industry will love throwing you to the curb. And this is pretty credible coming from Bill Murray who has had a mixed reputation in Hollywood. —Keudn883

I feel like Julia Roberts is portrayed as America's Sweetheart but is reportedly a nightmare of a person.
But I read that on the internet soooo —dontonefingerme
13.
Gordon Ramsey…. I curse worse when I run a kitchen and it’s all an act… he’s retained like 85% of his staff for more than 15 years I’ve read… if he was really an a-hole they’d leave —tweezer606060
14.
Julie Andrews aka Mary Poppins. A family member worked with her very closely on a few productions. She's tough as nails, way smarter than she leads on, and has the mouth of a truck driver. —fulthrottlejazzhands
15.
William Shatner is the walking poster child of insecurity. —MAJORMETAL84

[Drake's] whole image is one big marketing persona. You would think he stopped acting when he left Degrassi but he’s been acting his whole life. Honestly, if you look at his IG, Twitter and Facebook page, everything is about promoting his brand and there’s no ‘authentic’ version of himself in the online space. He doesn’t do interviews anymore either. That’s why the Pusha-T diss track was so venomous. He wasn’t just destroying his character, his brand took a hit because it’s synonymous to his persona as far as the public eye knew. I felt like he was more authentic during those ‘take care’ days but I guess things change when you’re the biggest artist in the world —pretzelwins

I've read somewhere Jake Gyllenhaal puts on a fake public persona. Which is sad to me. I love that guy. —phillipthethird3

Adam Levine, a few years ago he had an act in Latin America's biggest music festival "Festival de Viña del Mar" in Chile, he was a massive asshole, he asked the whole staff to not look at him in the eyes, instead made people turn around and look at the walls whenever he was walking, also he looked like he was hating to sing there as he had an angry expression all the time, his clothes were all dirty and his act was TERRIBLE (also he was like an hour late), the singing and everything he did on the scenario showed how much he hates to he there, after like a 30 minutes show he stormed out and there is a video of him insulting everybody and the city itself. This festival is well known worldwide and there is an estimated of 50 million people watching the show on TV and online, so everyone watched him being and asshole and there was news about it around the world, so at the end he recorded himself saying sorry and stuff.
Edit: Here is the video of him insulting everybody. —Kriger369
19.
David Dobrik —Ajford682
20.
Jimmy Fallon, no one laughs that much unless they’re f-cking coo coo —RageRags
21.
Anne Hathaway, but I guess it doesn’t count if she’s been recorded being a prick to her staff behind the scenes. In Japan, she was voted worst celebrity to work with lol —TheKidfromHotaru
22.
Jennifer Lawerence. I don't know why, but I’ve always felt that her whole, 'I’m quirky and awkward because I like to eat food' thing was disingenuous. —GingerBread79
23.
Chris Pratt. I hate to say it, but since he and Anna Faris split, his new wife and his Instagram posts are just…weird.—Yippee614
