In December, Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres, and fans are totally psyched. But how will they feel less than three hours later when the movie is over? Still psyched, because there are three more Spide-man films to come, all starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, web-slinger extraordinaire. Sony executive Amy Pascal confirmed the franchise will live on with Holland as the star in a new interview with Fandango this week.
"This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie," Pascal said. "We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go on to the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies."
What a relief! And there has been some anxiety on the issue as the partnership between Sony and Marvel Studios (and Disney) has been fraught when it comes to owning the rights of Spider-man's story. Holland made an appearance in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, and popped up in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, in 2019, negotiations between the studios almost ended in tragedy. The tragedy of never seeing Tom Holland in a spider suit again.
Things ended well and now we have a glut of Spider-Man content coming. After all, Peter Parker lives in the multi-verse, which has become an increasingly rich ground for Marvel, who have realized it's the best way to resurrect characters, explore alternate storylines, and generally have their cake and eat it, too. In fact, I'm willing to bet that Black Widow isn't done yet, if you catch my drift.
But until we get to that point in the road, we can expect to see Spider-Man's many adventures, year after year after year.
