If you didn't know, certain groups like to adopt images and symbols from pop culture and pervert them to their own ends. Marvel comics are no exception. The symbol used for the character known as The Punisher has been appropriated by a number of groups widely associated with white supremacy and others which not everyone is willing to admit are associated with white supremacy.
As Vox reports, it's become a huge issue that both law enforcement and many military folks think that The Punisher's symbol is rad because he kills people who can't be legally punished through the justice system. They just love extrajudicial killing!
The Punisher is not exactly supposed to be a hero, but his symbol has been popping up everywhere, from actual cops photographed with the logo on their uniforms to Sean Hannity wearing a version as a lapel pin on air. Instead of sending the Punisher back to his home planet and never speaking of him again, Marvel decided to deal with this issue by giving Frank "Punisher" Castle a new logo for 2022. It kinda looks like the old logo, but with horns:
The response online has definitely been mixed, as both the non-cops and cops hate it, though perhaps for different reasons:
Well, Marvel already tried telling the cops that Castle doesn't like them in The Punisher #13 comic, by having their hero tell them so, but it doesn't seem like these so-called fanboys actually read the comics. This is the next best thing besides putting the family vigilante intellectual property down for good—and Marvel won't let any IP die.
