comfort tv shows

Tens of thousands of Redditors eagerly chimed in on an AskReddit thread posted by user RunningInCali.

OP asked:

"What TV show is your go-to comfort show?"

Their responses were heartwarming, nostalgic, and imaginative, so we picked out 21 of them. Sounds like this upcoming weekend will be spent on the couch, feeling some feelings.

1. Modern Family

"I have a few but the weirdest one for me is Modern Family. Around 5 years ago during the Holidays I was really depressed and my heat went out one night during an ice storm.

So huddled under blankets with emergency heat running, I decided to start watching a Modern Family marathon because I had never watched it before. Now it’s a comfort show because it got me through a rough night."

- RevSnakebite

"Love Modern Family. It's a rare show where I don't hate a single character."

- pouliowalis

2. Unsolved Mysteries

"Unsolved Mysteries. I’ll watch them all, but Robert Stack takes the cake."

- Djabarca

3. Seinfeld

"Seinfeld. I finally get why my parents laughed so much."

4. The Great British Bake Off

"The Great British Bake Off."

- penny_can

"The very definition of a comfort show. It's like being in a warm bath that never goes cold."

- CyanManta

5. Futurama

"Futurama. I have so many good memories laughing at it with friends, it brings me back."

- throwingplaydoh

"I’ve been falling asleep to Futurama for about 6 years now. Whenever it’s not playing I have difficulty sleeping. "

- UptownShenanigans

Shoutout to Reddit user doggywoggy101 for having mentioned the thread r/futuramasleepers.

6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

- PeebleInYourShoe

7. Brooklyn 99

"Brooklyn 99."

- YellowStar012

"Coolcoolcoolcoolcool… no doubt no doubt no doubt no douuuubt."

- PunkTacos72

8. Golden Girls

"Golden Girls—seen it more times than I can count."

- Scribb74

"Yep, this was mine for many years. My favorite time watching was back when they did a marathon one day & I made my own cheesecake that day before it aired to eat while I watched it."

- AdGlittering9727

9. Wildlife documentaries

"Wildlife documentaries."

- LucyVialli

"Anything with David Attenbourough."

- Wizdad-1000

"His voice is just relaxing on its own."

- Aarizonamb

10. Monk

"Oddly enough I really love rewatching Monk from time to time as it gives me comfort about my own self. Even though it’s a fictional show it was the only show that I’ve been able to fully relate to it’s main character.

It helped me come to terms with and fully accept my mental quirks and the reality that just because I suffer from severe social anxiety and various phobias those things don’t make me any less of a person than anyone else.

Abnormalities aren’t inherently bad and there’s plenty of real people out there that you can connect with or relate to."

- BradRodriguez

11. Star Trek: The Next Generation

"Star Trek: TNG."

- SissyCouture

"Oh man, absolutely. My dad and I butted heads a lot when I was a teen, and sometimes it got pretty heated.

But no matter had happened, or what had been said, at the end of the day we could always sit and watch TNG together. Now, some 20 years later, it still helps me when I've had a bad day."

- CaptainDrunkBeard

12. Psych

"Psych. That show never gets old."

- Cararacs

"Early 2000s USA network had one of the greatest tv lineups ever."

- Human_Robot

13. No Reservations

"No Reservations.

Anthony Bourdain has this way of making you feel immersed in these far flung destinations and cultures. When working six to seven days a week with a full time job and a part time job I often just feel caged by work sleep repeat, Anthony and his show seems to open that cage and put me at ease if only for a moment.

RIP Mr. Bourdain, and thank you."

- randomandy90

"This. I see many posts before me of folks who had to stop watching after he died. I’m the opposite.

To me, the show captures how transient and fleeting life is. About living it to your fullest and [to] seek adventure on whatever scale you can."

- hockingquitefrankly

14. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

"It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia."

- sibtmonguap

"It's a five star show."

- MisterBovineJoni

15. King of the Hill

16. Fraiser

"Frasier. Soothing sounds of a honey-voiced radio therapist."

- Tim_the_terrible

17. Gilmore Girls

"Gilmore Girls. I rewatch the entire series once a year and it just fixes all the bad feelings every time. That show is something special."

- Umbre-Mon

"Every time I’m going through it mentally I hard reboot the show and go from episode one. The opening notes to “There She Goes” begins to stitch back together my broken spirit, and then I can drown in the dialogue I’ve memorized over the years."

- LittleFlowers13

18. Schitt's Creek

"Schitt's Creek."

- itjustshouldntmatter

"The ultimate comfort show that I can easily watch on repeat forever."

- At_the_Roundhouse

19. Trailer Parks Boys

"Trailer Park Boys. It's one of those shows where it's like watching old friends."

- Jelz

20. Parks and Rec

"Parks and Rec because it’s just so feel good."

- TheWildGooseChaser

"It is literally the best show ever."

- Frosty_Analysis_4912

21. Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives

"Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Nothing makes me more comfortable than a little stroll through Flavortown."

- fartkidwonder

Well, I feel warmer and fuzzier than fluffy socks fresh out of the dryer!
