Marvel Studios gave us the first official trailer for Ms. Marvel and we got to see Kamala Khan's new powers and origin for the Disney+ series.
The Ms. Marvel series will debut in June of 2022 and ahead of that release, Marvel just dropped a trailer to give a peek into the show.
We've known about plans to bring Khan into a Disney+ show since 2019. Khan is a Pakistani-American teen and she quickly became a favorite hero after she made an appearance in the comics in 2013. The Disney+ series will be her MCU debut. Iman Vellani is playing Kamala Khan and should be set up to pop into future MCU films and shows.
In 2020 we got our first glimpse at Ms. Marvel. Kamala's powers were reimagined for the MCU; in the comics, she was an "inhuman" but scuttlebutt has been that she'll have different origins and powers in the series.
Marvel gave us the first real look at the show and it's very different from any other MCU project we've seen before. It looks like Khan's powers come from gauntlets and the tone of the project is quite unique. WandaVision gave us "sitcoms eras", The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was very "buddy-cop", Loki was a thriller, and Hawkeye was a Christmas comedy.
Ms. Marvel is all teen angst and coming-of-age-story. The trailer is also littered with comic-style-text bubbles and animation, though it isn't evident if that is an element of the show or just for the trailer.
The trailer also really emphasized Kamala's Pakistani heritage and Muslim religion, both of which are character elements that stem from the comics. So despite changing up her powers, it seems Marvel wants to stay true to certain elements of the character.

Fans are excited, saying things like they hope it's a success. They're also really curious about the power changes:
"I dig the trailer, but why does she have an energy shield? Are they varying her powers THAT much, cause they really don't need to," wrote Eric Valdes on YouTube.
JayShockblast added, "Really looking forward to this. Not sure how much I love changing her powers up to make them all sparkley but I guess let's see how it translates."
Whatever the case, we're so ready for a cool new hero!
