The latest lawsuit about Heard's marriage to her ex-husband Johnny Depp is about to begin; Amber Heard spoke about what's coming on social media.
Amber Heard recently made a social media post about her upcoming trial with Johnny Depp. Both have made headlines for their personal lives over the last few years. Although she headlines the Aquaman franchise, she has been entangled with lawsuits over the marriage. She originally alleged that Depp was abusive in 2016.
Depp countered that she was, in fact, the abusive party and has fought to clear his name in several of the lawsuits. He sued the UK paper The Sun for calling him a "wife-beater" and lost that suit in 2020. Due to the loss, Warner Bros. removed him from the Fantastic Beasts series. Heard, however, has been allowed to continue Aquaman.
Depp is now suing Heard for libel over an op-ed about their marriage in The Washington Post. In that op-ed, she said that Depp verbally and physically abused her during the relationship. Depp is seeking $50 million in damages. Heard asked for the suit to be dismissed citing Depp’s loss of a libel case in the UK over a tabloid that called him abusive. The judge in America dismissed her request.
Heard posted on Instagram yesterday saying, "I never named [Depp], rather I wrote about the price women pay for speaking out against men in power."
She also said that she is paying for the article but hopes that when the case is over "I can move on and so can Johnny."
Her post has seen a lot of support from fans, but Depp has his own supporters. When Warner Bros. released Depp from Fantastic Beasts but kept Heard in her franchise, there was a huge uproar.
The trial will be held in Virginia and will be televised on Court TV, so the publicity around it is likely to be huge.
