A new minute-long trailer has been released and at two different points, the camera cuts to zombie versions of Strange and Wanda. These iterations of the superheroes were introduced in Disney+'s MCU series What If...? We'd been given some Zombie-Strange teases in previous marketing materials but this is the most we've really seen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness does tackle plot points we were given in the What If...? series. It also addresses certain plot points given in WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

"It is madness, for sure, what happens in our film," Benedict Cumberbatch said recently . "It’s pretty full-on. And it’s big, man. It’s very, very ambitious. And if we bring it off, I think it could be one of the biggest [Marvel films] we’ve seen so far."

The director of the Spider-Man trilogy, Sam Raimi, took over the film after Scott Derrickson left over creative differences.

"We want it to be a Sam Raimi movie," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said. "We would give notes like, 'This action is cool - you're competing with Avengers and Spider-Man, no problem - but don't forget the Sam Raimi parts.'"

Xochitl Gomez also joined the crew as America Chavez.

"I think it comes down to the nature of her powers, and the fact that the title of the film contains the word 'Multiverse' in it -- seems like a no-brainer to me," America Chavez creator Joe Casey said to CBR.

MCU / Disney+

"I think we all know she's had a weird journey in the comics when it comes to the consistency of her depiction. Obviously, her introduction into the MCU is an opportunity to distill the character down to her basic essence and strip away some of the baggage that may or may not have been weighing her down in the comics over the last decade. I have to be honest, when I created this character way back in 2010 -- a time when we were already well into what became known as "Phase One" of the MCU -- I never even considered that she might actually end up in one of these movies. It's a wild thing to see happen."

The new Strange movie opens on May 6.
