A new witness took to the stand this week to reveal that lead actor Jason Momoa and director James Wan fought to keep Amber Heard in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Production on the Aquaman sequel has seen its fair share of stalling during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Wan focusing on taking his time to do the movie justice instead of rushing it through. It was originally meant to release in December 2022, but was given a few extra months and is now scheduled to come out on March 17, 2023.

On top of production delays, the movie has also been dealing with quite a bit of backlash from fans rallying to get Heard removed from the sequel.

Industry insider Kathryn Arnold testified in court that Heard wasn’t allowed to participate in the shoot for the film’s poster, and was informed that she would not be invited to attend the 2022 DC FanDome event.

Arnold went on to tell the court that it was thanks to efforts by Momoa and Wan that Heard was still in the movie at all, saying, “In February 2021, there were conversations that Amber’s, I’m going to be technical with you, her option for employment was not going to be exercised. So they may not have hired her again.”

“Her management team fought very hard and they ultimately ended up hiring her, but not only because of what her management did, but also because star Jason Momoa and director James Wan committed to her.”

These claims match with Heard’s own statements during the trial.

The actress said previously that Warner Bros. had attempted to remove her entirely from the film before production began, citing a lack of chemistry between her and Momoa as well as the media coverage of the defamation trial.

Heard also stated that the studio reduced her role significantly as it was, and she worried about being removed entirely from the film after the studio released her from her contract.

Momoa and Wan have remained silent about the ongoing defamation trial, but DC Films head Walter Hamada purportedly will be making an appearance in the final days of the trial to defend the studio against Heard’s claims.
