In the latest Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprised their quintessential roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, leading to some fascinating interviews.

In a recent interview with GQ UK, McGregor discussed the close relationship between his and Christensen’s characters and how many fans ship them as a couple because of it. Not only that, but he regularly receives physical mail from fan artists showcasing the characters in compromising and romantic situations.

McGregor said in the interview, "There's a lot of homoerotic Obi-Wan/Hayden fan art that gets sent to me now and again, I don't know how it finds me. It's always a bit of an eyeopener."

He added, "You open the envelope, you think you're going to have to sign something, and you're like, 'F-cking hell!'”

McGregor and Christensen are both on record for how much they enjoy playing their characters and it doesn’t take much for shippers to be inspired to write and draw fan content for a relationship. The two actors returned to reprise their roles no doubt in large part due to that passion for their characters.

They both first made their appearances in the prequel trilogy that came out in the early 2000s, and the vast majority of critics criticized the films for the heavy-handed approach to CGI, which wasn’t available with the original films, and poorly-written scripts.

In more recent years, however, people have begun to see the merits of the prequels, with fans lauding the value of the lore and history they bring to the table.

"It's a really nice feeling for me that that's the case, that I have a sense now that there's this warmth for those films," McGregor said. "It absolutely is part of the reason I wanted to come back and play him again."
