ana de armas female james bond

No Time to Die leading lady Ana de Armas said in an interview with The Sun recently that James Bond should always be a man.

"There's no need for a female Bond," de Armas said in the interview. "There shouldn't be any need to steal someone else's character, you know, to take over. This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he's at."

Daniel Craig is the latest actor to play the master spy, with No Time to Die marking the closing chapter in his part of the franchise. Since then, there have been talks of whether a woman should take on the role of 007, but it is clear that Bond Woman de Armas, who played the role of fellow spy Paloma, doesn’t agree with that, and that the ladies of the Bond movies take a different path.

"What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way," she said. "That they're given a more substantial part and recognition. That's what I think is more interesting than flipping things."

Long-time Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli said in an interview last year that above all else, the next James Bond would be a British man.

She told The Hollywood Reporter, "It will be a man because I don't think a woman should play James Bond."

It does seem, however, that the next Bond movie will be a long time coming, as just last month Broccoli informed Deadline that “nobody’s in the running” for the titular character’s role. She went on to say that production on the next film is “at least” two years away.

"We're reinventing who he is and that takes time," she said.
