There are a lot of movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I think we can admit at this point that not all of them are gems. There have been different directors, writing teams, various levels of charisma amongst the leads—and sometimes the source material isn't everything it needs to be. The MCU needed to find its footing, too, and some of the early ones are a bit wobbly. So when Twitter user @Niiiccoollleee asked, "Worst MCU movie?" folks had some answers ready.

The replies have two heavy frontrunners for the worst MCU movie: Captain Marvel or Thor: The Dark World. The Dark World is the second Thor movie, and it has him fighting a bunch of Dark Elves, which is often a sign of a bad movie—fighting an imaginary race of "evil" people.

According to CBR, it was also a horrible experience for the 2013 film's director Alan Taylor:

"I had lost the will to make movies. I lost the will to live as a director," he recently explained. "I'm not blaming any person for that. The process was not good for me. So I came out of it having to rediscover the joy of filmmaking."

Yikes! Well, none of the other films ruined the director's mental health as far as I can tell, but who knows. The other film getting mentioned the most is Captain Marvel.

It's hard to be objective about that one because Brie Larson and the character were attacked pretty intensely by the same trolls who attack women in superhero films, Star Wars films, and the lady Ghostbusters. Looper reported at the time that men flooded Rotten Tomatoes with terrible reviews because of comments she made about promoting diversity. Is it terrible or are people sexist? Tough call.

Fans on either side of the debate are drawing their respective lines in the sand on Twitter, with some firmly in the camp of Carol Danvers and others backing the God of Thunder. Others, meanwhile, are arguing that Marvel Studios' oft-ignored The Incredible Hulk and the controversial Iron Man 3 should be in the running as well.

There are plenty of other responses, some of which are a little surprising:

But I think this is the answer:

The Incredible Hulk flies under the radar, perhaps because Marvel doesn't want to acknowledge it, but we had to go through a bunch of different guys before arriving at Mark Ruffalo. They had to walk before they could run (and smash).
