The last few weeks, Twitter has been embroiled in a debate over the showering habits of celebrities, a subject we should all know much less about. Ever since Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher made an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast and announced they barely ever bathe their children, it's been on everyone's minds. Whether they want it to or not.
"I wasn’t that parent that bathed my newborns, ever," Kunis admitted, saying she didn't have much running water in her childhood.
"If you can see the dirt on them, clean them," her husband backed her up. "Otherwise there’s no point."
They didn't get much pushback from Shepard, because he and his wife Kristen Bell are also in the No Washing camp. On an episode of The View, they also proudly told the world they don't clean their kids.
"I’m a big fan of waiting for the stink," said Bell. "Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up...There’s a red flag. Honestly, it’s just bacteria; once you get bacteria you gotta be like, 'Get in the tub or the shower.'"
I guess an argument could be made for why kids don't need as much washing as adults...but not really. Especially in a pandemic! Hygiene matters—unless you're Jake Gyllenhaal, who told Vanity Fair he doesn't wash his own body.
"More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times," he said.
At this point, Kunis and Kutcher seem to have realized things may have gone too far. They posted a video of themselves in the bathroom, seemingly cleaning up after a child washing episode. And maybe Kutcher is in the bath? Honestly hard to tell.
"You’re putting water on your children. Are you trying to melt them?" he says, as Kunis laughs into her towel. "Are you trying to injure them with water? This is ridiculous, what’s going on? That’s like the fourth time this week!... Their body oils are going to be destroyed!"
He captioned the video, "This bathing thing is out of hand. #KutcherBathroomTalks."
Has the no cleansing embargo ended, or are they just great actors?
