Ryan Reynolds has put his foot down! He and Rob McElhenney, who own the Welsh soccer team Wrexham AFC, penned a letter to Apple TV+ for the production company's joke about their team ownership in a recent episode of Ted Lasso.
The show is about an American football coach (Jason Sudeikis) hired to run a fictional soccer team in the U.K. — which was too close to Reynolds and McElhenney's purchase for the writers of the show not to wink at it.
And so, in a recent episode of Ted Lasso, the titular character cracked wise about the seriousness of Reynolds and McElhenney's purchase.
“We must insist that you cease and desist from the casting of any doubt regarding our commitment to the club, the fans and the entire Wrexham community,” the actors quipped in a formal-looking letter. “To avoid any legal action please send 2 LARGE boxes of Ted Lasso’s biscuits.”

McElhenney asked for his It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-stars for their support as the team starts their first season this weekend. It went... Hilariously.
Apple TV+ responded to the actors' letter. They posted:

They also joked:

Fans absolutely ate up the interaction, joking along, "Translation: Give us the cookies and no one gets hurt," from @maddyeisenberg. They also spotted the zippy line from McElhenney: "Highquality programming ranging from Mythic Quest season 1 to Mythic Quest season 2." McElhenney is the creator and star of Mythic Quest and the timing of this joke was just *chef kiss*.
Ted Lasso airs weekly on Apple TV+; it is written by Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Bill Lawrence, of Scrubs fame. The heartwarming comedy was a huge antidote to the pandemic-world in which it premiered and its first season cleaned up during awards season. It has received attention and critical praise, with Sudeikis winning a Golden Globe. The writers have won a Writers Guild of America Award and the series as a whole won a Peabody award.
Season 2 has been no slouch either; it's already been renewed for season 3.
