British outdoorsman Richard Mavor shared a pretty long video for his popular YouTube channel about his paddling expedition in Scotland's Loch Ness. The trip was used to raise money for a charity called the Alzheimer’s Society, but it's raised even more than $20,000—it's raised the myth of the Loch Ness Monster once again. A short clip taken with drone footage along the rim of the loch shows what some are claiming is the prehistoric beasty.
"The last thing I want to do is make a Nessie claim," Mavor told The New York Post. “I’m the most skeptical of people. But watching this I think yeah, there’s something a bit strange here."
He says he didn't even see Nessie until other viewers began to point out what looks like a long thing that may or may not be moving or real beneath the water:
There are still a lot of people out there who are passionate about a possible Nessie sighting, perhaps because the myth of a giant water creature living in Loch Ness's depths is so old. A man named Eoin O'Faodhagain, who has been searching for Nessie for years, saw the footage and thinks it's very special.
"The object in my estimation is at least 30 feet long as shown by solid blackness in the water, rising to at least 4 to 5 feet high. It was amazing to see such a large image caught on video compared to my previous sightings," he said. "This sighting is also special because there was no boat traffic or wave disturbance in the video and the surface of the loch was calm."
You can see a higher quality version of the moment at about minute four here:
"The more I watch it I think,' Crikey!'" Mavor told the Daily Record. “There really wasn’t anything in the area that could be.”
And though it resembles nothing so much as a giant log, Mavor insists that he saw no driftwood or anything like that in the area.
"That’s what’s confused me. It’s an inland water, you don’t get tidal debris like you do on the coast," he said. "Things do wash up, but nothing the size of this."
Apparently, the group was carrying a stuffed toy of Nessie with them as a mascot on their expedition and Mavor jokes, "Maybe the real Nessie just wanted to get a closer look."
You gotta keep a sense of humor when dealing with alleged sea serpents.
