With the release of information regarding character voices for the new Super Mario Bros. movie, fans of the franchise took to social media to criticize what they believe are terrible choices. Chris Pratt, who will be voicing Mario, especially got put through the ringer. Not only has he been consistently voted the "worst Chris" but he's also not even close to being Italian. Aye Madone!

John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 live action Super Mario Bros. movie, also had words about the acting choices. The actor tweeted, "So glad #superMariobros is getting a reboot! Obviously it's iconic enuff. But too bad they went all white! No Latinx in the leads! Groundbreaking color-blind casting in original. Plus I'm the only one who knows how to make this movie work script wise!"
Leguizamo, who was born in Colombia, also included memes that insisted critics owe his Super Mario Bros. movie an apology.

The cast of the new movie includes Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Seth Rogan, and Anya Taylor-Joy (who is Argentinian and lived in Buenos Aires until she was six). The roles of Toad and Kamek will be played by Keegan-Michael Key and Kevin Michael Richardson, who are African American.
The movie is slated to hit theaters in December 2022.
