It takes a lot of people to put together a film, and few people realize how important a role like 'editor' ends up being. While a director has a lot of say in what the final cut is, obviously, the person who shapes so much of what we end up seeing is the person at the table cutting things together.

The Star Wars trilogy created and directed by George Lucas was deeply influenced by the word of editor Marcia Lucas. At the time, she was married to George, and helped him with all three films as well as a few of the Indiana Jones movies.

They're not married anymore, and it doesn't seem like anyone has checked in with Marcia's thoughts on the franchise's progression. Lucasfilm is now owned by Disney, and the reins of the new Star Wars entries were held by Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams.

The introduction of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was mostly a pretty positive thing in many people's opinion, but since then, the new movies have been pretty controversial. Some say it's because the classic Star Wars fanboy type can't stand seeing women and people of color in leading roles. Others say the films just suck.

Though there's no consensus, it's clear that Marcia Lucas thinks it's the storylines that are really blowing the series.

Lucas was interviewed for J.W. Rinzler’s book on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi by film producer Howard Kazanjian, and a damning part of her opinion was shared by IndieWire.

"She was full of beans. She was really smart and really bright. Really wonderful woman. And I liked her husband, Frank. I liked them a lot. Now that she’s running Lucasfilm and making movies, it seems to me that Kathy Kennedy and J.J. Abrams don’t have a clue about ‘Star Wars.’ They don’t get it.

And JJ Abrams is writing these stories — when I saw that movie where they kill Han Solo, I was furious. I was furious when they killed Han Solo. Absolutely, positively there was no rhyme or reason to it. I thought, You don’t get the Jedi story. You don’t get the magic of ‘Star Wars.’ You’re getting rid of Han Solo?"

They have Luke disintegrate. They killed Han Solo. They killed Luke Skywalker. And they don’t have Princess Leia anymore. And they’re spitting out movies every year. And they think it’s important to appeal to a woman’s audience, so now their main character is this female, who’s supposed to have Jedi powers, but we don’t know how she got Jedi powers, or who she is. It sucks.

The storylines are terrible. Just terrible. Awful. You can quote me…JJ Abrams, Kathy Kennedy — talk to me.'"

She said what she said.
