Apple TV+ has dropped a new trailer for the Tom Hanks feature, Finch.

In the film, Tom Hanks faces the apocalypse with his dog and a robot. The Apple TV+ feature marks the film directorial debut of Miguel Sapochnik, who directed some of the biggest Game of Thrones episodes: “The Long Night,” “The Winds of Winter,” “Battle of the Bastards” and “Hardhome.”

Sapochnik takes Hanks into a world besieged by environmental ruin. Hanks plays Finch, a dying inventor who builds a robot to protect his dog and takes off to travel cross the nation in an RV. Hanks, his dog, and the robot face all manner of danger along the way. The robot is played by Caleb Landry Jones via motion-capture performance.

Finch was originally a Universal picture titled BIOS but COVID-19 delays kept the film out of theaters. Eventually, Universal sold the movie to Apple TV+. Hanks, who is pretty familiar with carrying an entire film by himself, seems to be the only human actor on screen for a lot of the movie. He's done this before, in Cast Away, and this time instead of a volleyball, he gets a dog. The dog and Hanks have some very tear-jerking-adorable interactions in the trailer. The robot, however, seems to be the most important part of Finch's survival.

There has been a whisper of concern about the film's potential performance due to how Universal sold the movie to a streaming service. On the other hand, Hanks' star power may negate any worries, and the entire handoff really may just be a casualty of COVID. It's been such a weird year for so many things, especially films; if nothing else, it'll be nice to have some new content to watch from our couch while Delta continues to plague us.
