michael myers homophobic

During the month of October, everyone loves a good Michael Myers flick. But some are shaking their virtual fingers on Twitter at the mask-wearing psychopathic killer over his perceived homophobia. Some people who are big fans of Myers overall were less than pleased with his decision to off a gay couple in the new Halloween Kills movie, which hit theaters and streaming services earlier this month.

It’s pretty obvious that tweets like this are written in jest, but some people are so, ahem, triggered at the idea of “snowflakes” tweeting anything that they’ve decided to clutch their pearls and gaspingly make this into a thing. And, tbh, we like to laugh at those people. So we’re fine with how this is unfolding. Hang on, let us grab some popcorn……

The kerfuffle began when a horror-flick fan tweeted the following joke as he was enjoying the film:

Some people responded with a Myers-like, insane level of rage, as though the Tweet had been serious and Jordan-Pumpkin-Knife-37 was out to ruin Halloween for us all. Jordan, baffled, responded:

Twitter users who are not ragefully insane backed him up:

The joke is centered around the couple that, in the new film, now lives in Myers’ childhood home. Michael Myers, naturally, has zero f—ks to give about real estate sales or property law. Michael Myers is a vicious serial killer, based on the serial killer that actor James Jude Courtney actually lived with as roommates for a while.

He pretty much only ever spares babies or small children. So, eventually, good ol’ Mikey breaks into the house and slashes them both to ribbons like the savage lunatic that he is, then lays their bodies to rest next to each other.

The truth is, the film is doing a pretty good job of representation by showing a same-sex couple that’s just like any other couple out there.

The film isn’t about how OMG THEY’RE GAY, they’re just a regular couple who fixes up an old murder house into something HGTV fans would drool over, and then unfortunately because it is also a Halloween film, they get murdered, because that’s how it goes when you star in a Michael Myers movie. They are queer people whose marriage is being represented as normal by the filmmakers—which is a big step for Hollywood, sad to say.

Since watching losers freak about because someone made a joke on Twitter (you know, the same losers who will scream “F*ck your feelings, snowflake!” at someone, LOL, just savor the dramatic irony there) is so gosh darn entertaining, we recommend you view the movie first and then make a double feature out of it by looking at people’s infuriated reactions to the “Michael Myers is homophobic confirmed” joke.

(The poor guy that wrote that. It’s not every day that you make a mediocre-to-decent joke on the internet and people behave like the world is ending. Dane Cook’s career would be doing so much better if that were the case.)

On a closing note, here’s something else to infuriate the same people who went bats—t insane over Target’s toy aisle: Chucky the killer doll has a new show where he acknowledges that one of his children is gender-fluid (i.e. non-binary), and actually shows some empathy. As much empathy as you can expect from a possessed, murderous doll, anyway. Which is more empathy than you can expect from some of the toxic and overly-excitable folks on the internet.
