Neil Patrick Harris Mayim Bialik

Friends are supposed to be great support systems, right? Well, actress Mayim Bialik recently shared that she was less than a good friend to Neil Patrick Harris back in the 90s.

The Big Bang Theory star spoke with James Corden on The Late Late Show and revealed how she blew up a friendship with Harris by refusing to applaud his performance in a 1997 production of the musical Rent.

Harris was playing filmmaker Mark Cohen, and the audience gave him a big round of applause at the end of the performance — but Bialik declined.

"I mean, this was a long time ago," she explained. "But when your friend is in the play and then everybody is clapping at the end, and you say to your boyfriend next to you, 'I don’t want to stand for this.' And then you look up and Neil Patrick Harris is looking right at you — it’s a bad day."

"I mean, he is amazing, but I just wasn’t into the [thought of], 'Let’s give a standing ovation.' It wasn’t my thing," she continued.

"But that’s the time when you don’t say it out loud, because Neil was reading my lips, and when I went backstage to say hi to him…he said, I kid you not, 'Why did you say you weren’t going to stand up?'"

Bialik said she did not have a good answer: "It was terrible. It was bad."

After the incident, Bialik and Harris did not speak for a while, but they seem to have moved on from the incident now.

"We didn’t speak for a long time. [Harris] says that he forgave me and he sent me flowers when he heard that I’m still carrying this terrible...I mean, I felt terrible," she said.
