Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott released his new film The Last Duel in October, and you may just be hearing about it for the first time because it apparently bombed in the box office, The Hollywood Reporter says.

The film features a lot of heavy hitters, including Adam Driver and Jodie Comer, plus Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunited and talking in completely different accents. Who wouldn't want to see these beautiful famous people fight? No one, it seems. The film's budget was $100 million and seems to have only made $27 million worldwide.

On Monday, Scott's newest episode with Marc Maron on his WTF podcast was released, and he shared some of his own theories about why this moving didn't do very well. He said Disney did a great job promoting the movie, so that wasn't it. What could it be?!

"I think what it boils down to — what we’ve got today [are] the audiences who were brought up on these f-cking cellphones," Scott claimed. "The millennian [sic] do not ever want to be taught anything unless you’re told it on a cellphone...This is a broad stroke, but I think we’re dealing with it right now with Facebook. This is a misdirection that has happened where it’s given the wrong kind of confidence to this latest generation, I think."

The confidence to say "NO" to a Ridley Scott film (which is basically about a rape)...how dare we! Scott is 83 years old, so he is more Facebook's demographic, but whatever. Even for an old man, it's pretty out of touch to say people in the millennial age bracket don't watch movies. Despite his hatred for us, he is at peace with his decision to make a film no one wanted to see.

"That’s the call you make," he told Maron. "That’s the call Fox made. We all thought it was a terrific script. And we made it. You can’t win all the time. I’ve never had one regret on any movie I’ve ever made. Nothing. I learned very early on to be your own critic. The only thing you should really have an opinion on is what you just did. Walk away. Make sure you’re happy. And don’t look back. That’s me."

And this is what everyone thinks about him:

Well, we've all heard of your movie now, Mr. Scott. Still not watching it. Maybe on a plane in a few years.
