Spoiler alert, Spider-Man fans, there is a big one ahead for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though there are a million villains out there who would love to get their hands on Peter Parker, the MCU and Sony decided to bring back an old favorite: the Green Goblin.
Green Goblin was in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, and at the time he was played by actor Willem Dafoe. And he's still being played by Willen Dafoe twenty years later!
Yes, Norman Osborn is back and Dafoe is as campy and fun as ever. Fans are thrilled to see Dafoe and he is in the film for significantly more than a cameo. Though the film is crammed with villains, like Doc Ock, the Lizard, Electro, and Sandman, Green Goblin ends up being the main villain for most of the movie. And he's as feisty as ever:
Fans are shocked by how good Dafoe is still and also how he seemingly hasn't aged in twenty years.
In an interview for Sony Pictures on the film site Mulderville, Dafoe said this round his character is definitely creepier than in the campier Raimi version. But it was important for him to stay in the role in a bigger way.
"To do this physical stuff was important to me," Dafoe said. "One of the first things I said to [director] Jon [Watts] and [producer] Amy [Pascal], basically when they pitched it to me, before there was even a script, was, 'Listen, I don't want to just pop in there as a cameo or just fill in in close-ups. I want to do the action because that's fun for me."
He definitely seems like he's having fun.
