In case you missed it, Warner Brothers released a new trailer for The Batman and it fleshes out the relationship between Batman and Catwoman—and hints at a relationship between The Riddler and Bruce Wayne.
Warner Bros. latest trailer for The Batman is appropriately titled "The Bat and The Cat" and showcases the flirty, fighty relationship between Batman and Catwoman.
In the trailer, Robert Pattinson's Batman and Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman seem to have something of an alliance (and a steamy one), although the two are also shown sparring.
The hero/anti-hero (or anti-hero/villain) dynamic that defines the two characters' starcrossed romance usually leads to a little friction in their team-ups. Despite being a vigilante, Batman still lives by a code while Catwoman is a little more, uh, flexible. She also seems less guarded about her real identity.
"You have a lot of cats," Batman tells an unmasked Selina Kyle while the two stand in her kitchen. "I have a thing about strays," she responds.
The trailer also gives us a little more insight into The Riddler's beef with Batman and/or Bruce Wayne, hinting that the villain knows the Caped Crusader's wealthy alter ego.
Paul Dano's Riddler gives off some major Rorschach vibes, speaking in self-righteous pronouncements calling Gotham City a "cesspool."
It's not clear what The Riddler's whole deal is, but it seems to involve a grudge against Gotham City and possibly the Wayne family—and by extension Bruce/Batman—as well. The Batman is set during our titular character's second year of crimefighting, so The Riddler and The Penguin (played by an unrecognizable Colin Farrell) might be the first major tests of Batman's abilities.
Apparently, The Riddler gets the upper hand on Batman at least once, blowing up parts of Gotham City and flooding some streets.
