I could watch Moana on an endless repeat and a good 80% of why is because The Rock is just so perfect in that movie.
So it really makes me happy that he seems to be just as much of a delight as a real human person.
He's pretty well known for his super sweet nature and generosity, so when he was presented with the People's Champ Award at the People's Choice Awards, it wasn't really a SHOCK. But what WAS a surprise was that he instantly turned around and gave it to a Make-a-Wish recipient who was in the audience.
The fan's name is Shushana and her wish for the foundation was to attend the ceremony; she did not know what The Rock was cooking (SORRY).
Earlier in the evening, Johnson met with Shushana and chatted with her about her story. He was so inspired that he thought she deserved the award more than he did, so he did what anyone should do: he gave it to her.
Here's what he said:
"This is a total surprise. I met her earlier. I told her how inspired I was by her story. She is a survivor. She has fought literally for her life. She has inspired her family, her friends. Now, you guys here, now the world that is watching, thank you so much for this. And I just want to tell you that Muhammad Ali, one of my favorite quotes he says is, 'The service to others is the rent you pay for the room you have here on Earth.' I want to tell you how much you've inspired me and everyone around you, certainly everyone here, but I want to give you this, because you represent everything that it means to be a People's Champion, so this is for you."
Jeff Bezos was a presenter at the event and he had this to say of The Rock: "His achievements are legend. His work ethic is unparalleled. He transcends all demographics. He is impossible not to like and he can sure put down a lot of pancakes. But even with all that, the thing that really stands out the most? He's kind. … You see, kindness is a choice. And what I admire most in Dwayne is his choice to show unwavering kindness to everyone around him."
The Rock was also nominated for Male Movie Star of 2021 for Jungle Cruise and Comedy Movie Star for the same film. He also won those awards.
