Once again, we are talking about Matt Damon doing something super weird. Damon recently appeared in a commercial for Crypto.com. Cryptocurrency is a form of money that is somewhat controversial but also very seductive—some people have made a LOT of money investing in crypto, but a bunch of other people have also lost money and the process of creating crypto is terrible for the environment as "mining coins" requires high powered computers.
But Damon's commercial is a bit absurd for reasons outside of how cryptocurrency is raising the earth's temperature. The commercial gets super weird about masculinity, comparing setting up a cryptocurrency investment portfolio to climbing mountains and flying the world's first airplane. Maybe because there's a potential for ruining your life?
"As they peer over the edge, they calm their minds and steel their nerves with four simple words that have been whispered by the intrepid since the time of the Romans," Damon says in the commercial spot. "Fortune favors the brave."
People on Twitter are finding the whole thing baffling and are just riffing off the absurdity of crypto, Damon, and machismo in general.
Matt Damon has lived long enough to make whatever he's advertising look worse.
