Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness dropped another trailer and this time we know that non-MCU films are part of the universe.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness dropped its new trailer during Sunday's Big Game.
We're into Phase 4 of the Marvel Multiverse now and 2022 is pushing the storylines hard and fast. After Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which we got to watch three generations of Spider-Men team up, Doctor Strange continues the stories. Benedict Cumberbatch stars again as the titular character in his own Multiverse story arc.
There have been rumors that we may be getting some cool cameos in the sequel film. We do know that Cumberbatch is going to play at least two iterations of the Doctor.
One will be an evil version of the character, possibly What If...?'s Strange Supreme. We'll also see Xochitl Gomez bring America Chavez to life in the film.
The trailer confirms that we're getting Sir Patrick Stewart in this film, very likely returning as Professor X from the original X-Men trilogy.
Back in January of 2021, Stewart revealed that Marvel had met with him about pulling Professor X into the MCU. The captions of the trailer note Stewart as "Mystery Voice" but it seems pretty clear that he'll be playing Professor X, especially since Kevin Feige confirmed years ago that the X-Men would join the MCU.
After the runaway success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it also makes sense for Marvel to invest in non-MCU movies. It's safe to guess that Patrick Stewart will be joined by other Fox or Sony Marvel movies and some of the names we've been hearing floating around (Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, for example) may make appearances. Time will tell!
The new trailer debuted during the Super Bowl this year and gave us new content to parse for clues. Check it out here:
