Disney/Pixar has dropped a new Lightyear trailer and given us a look at the redesigned Zurg.
Disney shared a new Lightyear trailer for the Chris Evans spin-off of the Toy Story franchise. The new film gives us the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, a hero who would inspire the toy voiced by Tim Allen in the original movies. The story sports a young test pilot on an intergalactic adventure trying to escape an alien planet.
Chris Evans leads the cast as Buzz Lightyear himself. Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Taika Waititi, Peter Sohn, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. also star in the film. Development began shortly after Finding Dory but the film wasn't announced until December of 2020.
After five years of development, shooting, and post, Lightyear is ready to hit theaters in summer of 2022.
The trailer gives a look at the plot of the movie and is set to David Bowie's "Starman."
Evil Emperor Zurg gets a new design. In the Toy Story original movies, Zurg was Buzz's enemy and basically a parody of Vader from Star Wars. The redesign in the newly revealed trailer gives him a little more weight and makes him a much scarier bad guy.
We also get a look at Buzz's shift from a test pilot into a hero, as well as the awesome voice work from Evans.
The movie hits theaters on June 17th.
