Antony Starr plays the evil superhero Homelander on The Boys. He was recently given a 12-month suspended sentence for drunkenly assaulting chef Bethel Araujo in Costa Blanca.
Starr was in Spain filming a new Guy Richie film when the assault took place. He was also ordered to pay more than $5000 to the victim.
The court trial in Alicante also clarified that he would only dodge serving prison time if he handed the money over in 72 hours. Starr covered his face with a hoodie and face mask as he left court without a word.
The actor was convicted of "wounding" during his court hearing on Thursday, which came after spending two nights in police custody. He was arrested early Wednesday morning when the police were called about a disturbance outside a pub.
The chef, Bethel Araujo, told officers he had been punched twice and had a glass smashed in his face. He went to the hospital and received four stitches over his eye.
A court official commented:
"A speedy trial ended up taking place and Alicante Court of Investigation Number Nine, acting as a duty court, sentenced the arrested man to 12 months in prison and the payment of a fine of £4,141 for a crime of wounding.
"The detainee’s state of drunkenness was taken into account as an extenuating factor. The sentence was the result of an agreement between the state prosecution service and the man who was subsequently convicted.
"His prison sentence is being suspended on the condition that he doesn’t commit another crime in two years and pays the compensation in the next 72 hours."
Starr is in Spain shooting Guy Ritchie's latest film, which also stars Jake Gyllenhall as a sergeant on his final tour in Afghanistan.
Bethel Araujo, the victim, told press that Starr was "very drunk" and lashed out after a friend of Araujo's asked a friend of Starr's to get Starr to calm down.
Starr responded by telling the chef to "F* off" and physically assaulted Araujo. "After he punched me I was dizzy and that’s when he hit me with the glass by his left eyebrow," he said.
Araujo also said that Starr threatened him in English:
"You don’t know who you’ve messed with, you don’t know who I am and what you’ve done. You’ve committed the mistake of your life and I’m going to look for you. I want to kill you."
Spain's National Police took Starr to a station where he spent the rest of the night. Before the court hearing, a spokesperson said, "I can confirm a 46-year-old man was arrested following an incident at a pub in Alicante around 2:30 am on March 2. He was held on suspicion of wounding. He has spent two nights in police cells and is due to appear in court later today. Another man suffered a cut near his left eyebrow which required four stitches. Only the one arrest was made."
