Viral TikTok videos out of Ukraine appear to show what looks like a large part of an actual unexploded missile sticking right out of the kitchen cabinets in a resident's home, right next to the stove, as the local bomb squad attempts to remove it. Where exactly this occurred is unclear, though it was posted by the account of someone claiming to live in Dergachi, which is located 12 miles northwest of Kharkiv. The area has seen heavy fighting, being located very close to the Russian border.
One video shows the bomb squad fully rocking the missile back and forth where it's lodged in the kitchen, somehow in an otherwise fairly undamaged home. We can only hope that means that there is absolutely zero risk of the thing going off while they're all standing next to it.
The video of the bomb disposal unit appears to have been in response to some who tried to claim that the footage in the original video must have been altered somehow, with some noting that the hole in the ceiling doesn't look big enough to admit the missile. There has been a significant issue with wrongly attributed video footage being used to spread false rumors about the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the Russian government has repeatedly claimed that evidence of their war crimes is fake news.
However the missile got there, evidence that Russian forces are targeting civilian areas including residential housing, hospitals, schools, and even known bomb shelters gets more staggering by the day. The original video also does not attempt to hide the fact that the rest of the apartment was left undamaged, however the missile got there.
"Lucky that nothing exploded," the video description reads.
While some remained suspicious, many more comments on the videos used the opportunity to mock the Russian government for its flimsy excuses to invade Ukraine and attempts to claim that everything that makes them look bad is either faked or a false flag operation.
"You don't understand, there was a Azov base in the sink," wrote one commenter, referring to the right-wing Ukrainian paramilitary group.
"You were just 'saved' from washing dishes," joked another.
Officials in Ukraine have reported that over 500 civilians have now been killed by Russian attacks since Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of the neighboring country. One of the recent victims was a nine-year-old child, and there are now reports that a 96-year-old Holocaust survivor, Boris Romantschenko, is the latest casualty after other missiles struck his apartment building on Friday.
Romantschenko spent time in multiple Nazi concentration camps after their forces invaded the Soviet Union during WWII, but he did not survive supposed attempts by Putin to "de-Nazify" Ukraine.
