Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed admiration for the support of actors Milas Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.

The couple’s GoFundMe fundraiser has raised over $35 million to aid Ukrainians in need since Russia’s invasion of the country began.

In a tweet President Zelenskyy posted, he said that Kunis and Kutcher “were among the first to respond to our grief. They have already raised $35 million & are sending it [...] to help refugees.”

The tweet included a photo of President Zelenskyy’s laptop, showing him in a video conference from Sunday with the star couple. Kutcher retweeted President Zelenskyy’s post, while Kunis tweeted the photo to her account, but neither added comments about their video conference meeting with the Ukrainian president.

President Zelenskyy went on in his tweet to say, “Grateful for their support. Impressed by their determination. They inspire the world.”

In a statement made on Monday, President Zelenskyy called Kunis, who was born in Ukraine, and Kutcher a “star couple who sincerely believe in us, in our victory, in our future.”

“They help IDPs [Internally Displaced Refugees] by raising funds. And the two of them have already raised [nearly] $35 million,” President Zelenskyy said. “I thanked them on behalf of our people, on behalf of all of us. This is a good result for one couple of our friends in America.”

The Ukrainian president also said, “We are working to make the whole world our friends.”

Kunis and Kutcher set out with their fundraiser to raise $30 million in support of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian invasion.

In the two weeks since its initial launch, they have raised a total of $35 million and counting, $3 million of which the couple themselves donated to the cause.

In an Instagram post, Kunis and Kutcher shared last Thursday, March 17, the couple told followers that they were “overwhelmed with gratitude” for the influx of donations from over 65,000 donors when they launched their GoFundMe. Having surpassed their initial goal, the power couple have made the decision to leave the fundraiser open.

In the post, Kutcher told supporters, “Our work is not done. Please don’t stop donating,” Kunis added. “This is just the beginning of a very, very long journey.”
