Marvel Studios released the Thor: Love & Thunder trailer, which gave us a first peek at Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman's return to the characters.
The fourth Thor movie stars Hemsworth as Thor, the God of Thunder, and repartners him with Thor: Ragnarok director Take Waititi. We also get a bunch of other Marvel characters back in the fold, including Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.
Foster/Portman hasn't appeared in an MCU flick since Thor: The Dark World. We'll also get more of Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, who made her first appearance in Ragnarok. After Avengers: Endgame ended by leaving Thor with the Guardians of the Galaxy, we'll ask see those Guardian characters appear in the new film.
Watiti has said that Love and Thunder is more emotional than Ragnarok, that it is more about love. He has also said that Love and Thunder will take from Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor comics, which shows Jane foster battling cancer while picking up Mjolnir and taking on Thor's powers.
Whatever the plot, we now have a first look. The new movie of course sees the return of Hemsworth's Thor, Portman's Jane Foster and Thompson's Valkyrie. We also know that Christian Bale's villain, Gorr the God Butcher, should appear, though he isn't in the trailer below. The basic plot line of the film is that Thor goes into retirement, but Gorr's move to kill gods has Thor returning to the work.
The trailer seems to show a lot of the story; we see Thor traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy and deciding to give up being a superhero in order to spend some time self-reflecting. He also abandons Stormbreaker and goes on a journey; it seems like he's really going his own way without friends and allies.
We know that he has to come out of this self-imposed isolation, but we don't see Gorr in the trailer. Instead, we see Zeus, leading us to wonder if Zeus is attacked by Gor.
Valkyrie joins Thor and doesn't seem thrilled as New Asgard's king. Korg stands with Thor before a huge skeleton. Jane Foster, who has Mjolnir, also encounters Thor on his journey.
Fans are excited for the news and have taken to Twitter to scream their excitement.
"This summer the big screen belongs to them," cried @wandaolsen.
"JANE AS THE MIGHTY THOR IN THE THOR LOVE AND THUNDER TRAILER IM SCREAMING," wrote another Twitter user.
