A security guard who works for Johnny Depp recently testified in the Heard/Depp defamation trial that Heard spat at and punched Depp.
Travis McGirven spoke to the court on Monday May 2nd. He said that he met Heard two years before her marriage to Depp, in 2013, and described the relationship as "super loving" but also saw them argue.
When the couple came back from Australia in March of 2015, the fights increased in frequency. McGirven says there was name-calling and shouting on Heard's end and Depp wanted to leave.
McGirven says Heard called Depp names like “f*****g deadbeat dad” and a “f*****g c***” and insulted McGirven when he tried to get Depp to safety, out of the apartment.
On March 23, 2015, McGirven said, Depp asked the bodyguard to come to the penthouse of the Eastern Columbia Building with nurse Debbie Lloyd. McGivern says he found Depp at the door and Heard threw a Red Bull can at Depp from the mezzanine level. The can hit Depp in the back.
McGirven said that Heard also threw a bag at Depp and spat at him, which angered Depp.
Heard then left with her sister, Whitney, and Depp threw Heard's clothing around, McGirven said. Eventually, the Heard sisters came back and McGivern tried to get Depp out of the apartment. Another confrontation began and the bodyguard saw a closed fist over his right shoulder. Heard, the bodyguard claims, punched Depp with a closed fist in the side of his face.
Depp, McGivern said, reacted with "a look of shock… what just happened? Where did that come from?"
The bodyguard says he then removed Depp from the penthouse. Depp saw where he had been hit and had "a nice little shiner." McGivern says Depp did not respond to the hit and did not throw anything at anyone.
Under cross, Heard's lawyer asked McGivern if Depp tried to grab Heard's hair and hit her with the cast he had on his hadn't. The bodyguard said "that is not correct". He also said he never saw Depp push or shove Heard's sister.
Heard first made allegations of abuse in 2016 when she filed for divorce and accused Depp of abusing her during the marriage. The pair eventually agreed to an expensive settlement with clauses meant to protect both Heard and Depp after the breakup, Heard continued to speak.
While Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed did not call out Depp by name, the actor is suing her for libel over the piece. In the op-ed, Heard alleged that Depp verbally and physically abused her during the relationship. Depp is seeking $50 million in damages.
