One of Johnny Depp's security guards testified in court that Amber Heard admitted to putting poop in her shared bed with Depp after a huge fight. The guard says she called it, "a horrible practical joke".
Heard first made allegations of abuse in 2016 when she filed for divorce and accused Depp of abusing her during the marriage. The pair eventually agreed to an expensive settlement with clauses meant to protect both Heard and Depp after the breakup, Heard continued to speak.
Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed did not call out Depp by name, but Depp is suing Heard for libel over the piece. In the op-ed, Heard alleged that Depp verbally and physically abused her during the relationship. Depp is seeking $50 million in damages.
On Thursday, Starling Jenkins, a member of Depp's security team, gave his testimony.
He spoke about the time around Heard's 30th birthday in April of 2016. Depp earlier testified that he was late to the party because he was speaking with his business manager about the surprisingly poor state of his finances. After the dinner, Depp said, Heard bearded and hit him.
Depp left the apartment and went to his home in the Hollywood Hills. Heard left for a trip to Coachella the next day and the housekeeper found the feces on Depp's side of the bed.
"My initial response to that was, I laughed," Depp said in his testimony. "It was so outside, it was so bizarre and so grotesque that I could only laugh."
Jenkins, meanwhile, went with Heard to Coachella. Before they left with Heard's sister and a friend, Jenkins retrieved her luggage and dogs.
Jenkins had "a conversation pertaining to the surprise she left in the boss's bed." He said she referred to "the defecation" as "a horrible practical joke gone wrong."
Depp said that after this incident, he did not speak to Heard again until a month later, after his mother's death. Heard blamed the feces on her dogs, which Depp found unconvincing. The dogs were very small; the fecal matter was not.
"I lived with those dogs," Depp said. "I picked up their funk. It was not the dogs."
