Amber Heard took the stand for the first time during her defamation trial this week and shared graphic stories of abuse that she says Johnny Depp subjected her to.
Her testimony was tearful as she recounted tales of a camping trip in Hicksville, NY in 2013. Depp, according to Heard, accused a woman of flirting with Heard and was upset about it.
“You think you’re touching my girl. That’s my fucking girl,” Heard recalled Depp saying.
When the couple retired to their trailer, Heard says Depp became aggressive and accused Heard of lying to him about her relationship with the woman.
“I didn’t really know her that well—I actually don't know her at all,” Heard testified.
In the trailer, Depp started smashing things, according to Heard, “He turned all that rage onto the trailer itself."
At that point, Heard said that Depp no longer made sense and she figured he was "probably really high". He also started looking for something.
“I went into the bathroom, and as I came out, he asked me, ‘Where is it?’ I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he said, ‘You know what I’m fucking talking about.’”
Heard said that Depp tore her underwear off and subjected her to a cavity search, allegedly looking for cocaine. Depp “just shoved his fingers inside me… I just stood there while he twisted his fingers around,” Heard testified.
Early into her time on the witness stand, Heard said, "I struggle to find the words to describe how painful this is. This is horrible for me to sit here for weeks and relive everything here."
Heard first made allegations of abuse in 2016 when she filed for divorce and accused Depp of abusing her during the marriage. The pair eventually agreed to an expensive settlement with clauses meant to protect both Heard and Depp after the breakup, Heard continued to speak.
While Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed did not call out Depp by name, the actor is suing her for libel over the piece. In the op-ed, Heard alleged that Depp verbally and physically abused her during the relationship. Depp is seeking $50 million in damages.
