I could start this article with an eye-roll about how of course the CGI is shoddy in the superhero series about a girl. I could also start this article with a wincing apology for the entertainment industry, noting that it is damn hard to make a TV show, any TV show, good or bad. So much work, so many people pour their souls into these things. I could also start this article with a note that I have no clue what goes into CGI. I do not. I assume it is hard.
But at the end of the day, what winds up happening is some dissatisfied fans watching the trailer for the Disney+ series She-Hulk and the memes it generates.
Marvel Studios recently released the first trailer and fans immediately honed in on the quality (or lack thereof) of the CGI.
Judge for yourself:
The show stars Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, and Tatiana Maslany. Maslany plays the She-Hulk, a lawyer navigating the "superhuman law division." Her cousin? Bruce Banner, the original Hulk. The trailer doesn't show off much of the plot, but what we do see is Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, transforming ... into a somewhat bigger green version of ..herself? Like, okidokie?
The rendering of She-Hulk seems, to many, unconvincing.
Again, I'm reiterating: CGI is HARD STUFF. I know enough to know that I have no clue how hard it is. But we're talking about Marvel and Disney and fans have a certain threshold of excellence they've grown to expect.
And so we get to the memes:
