GoFundMe was quick to remove a $1 million fundraiser that claimed to be made to help Amber Heard pay over $10 million to Johnny Depp.

The GoFundMe fundraiser was posted shortly after the jury announced their decision that Heard would have to pay Depp $15 million in damages (reduced to $10.35 million due to the state of Virginia’s limit of $350,000 in punitive damages) and Depp would have to pay Heard $2 in damages.

The fundraiser was posted by a person named Kimberly Moore who claimed to be in direct contact with Heard and her legal team, and stated that all funds raised by the GoFundMe would be given directly to Heard.

The “Justice for Amber Heard” fundraiser’s description read, “The trial was a disgrace. I believe Amber, and social media protected the abuser. The judgment exceeds her net worth. It's so sad that he was able to get away with the abuse. The judgment furthers that abuse. If you can please help her.”

According to TMZ, a spokesperson for GoFundMe said that they flagged and took down the page quickly before a "substantial" amount of money was donated to the fake account, and they added that none on Heard’s team were associated with the fundraiser.

Additionally, a GoFundMe representative told Insider that the website would “remove any fundraisers unless there's a direct connection and the fundraiser has been authorized by the recipient of the funds.” They added that the website’s “top priority is to keep our community safe and protect the generosity of our donors.”

The jury announced their verdict on the six-week-long defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp on Wednesday, June 1, and found that both actors were in the wrong to a degree. They concluded that Heard had defamed Depp in her Washington Post op-ed from 2018, but also that Depp had defamed Heard in court via his lawyers’ statement that her accusations were a “hoax.”

In the day following the trial, Elaine Bredehoft, Heard's lawyer, went onto the Today show to discuss the case and said that Heard couldn’t afford to pay the damages and would be seeking to appeal.
