Succession star Jeremy Strong had a profile about himself published in The New Yorker magazine, and it's got some celebrities' panties in a twist. The article is about Strong's intense commitment to his craft, and he comes off a little odd or intense, but it's not some sort of celeb take down.
The response, however, has definitely gotten people debating what cultural writing is supposed to do these days. Should it always just mean sucking up to anyone famous and never posting a single word about them that could be construed as negative?
Jessica Chastain seems to think so, tweeting about "snark" and how great Strong is.
"I've known Jeremy Strong for 20yrs & worked with him on 2 films," she said. "He's a lovely person. Very inspiring & passionate about his work. The profile that came out on him was incredibly one-sided. Don't believe everything you read folks. Snark sells but maybe it's time we move beyond it."
She then shared a statement supposedly from Aaron Sorkin, who she claims doesn't have social media and asked her to share a letter "defending" Strong.
Now Anne Hathaway has joined the choir, celebrating Strong and supporting him through this "difficult time."
"As the week ends, I would like to send some love to Jeremy Strong who I'm lucky enough to have worked with twice and who I am proud to consider a friend," she wrote on Instagram in a tribute to Strong. "I deeply value his qualities of thoughtfulness, sincerity, authenticity, sweetness, depth, kindness, generosity, as well as his powerful intelligence and extraordinary sensitivity."
I must know if Strong has actually read this profile yet, because he honestly seems like he's got more interesting things going on in his life than this non-scandal.
