scream sequel, scream 6

Scream, the 2022 reboot of the cult classic slasher movie of the same name, has had glowing reviews and an excellent box office run, which has led production companies Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group to give the go-ahead for its sequel.

Scream (2022) opened in theaters on January 14 and in the weeks since has grossed over $107 million at the global box office.

Many of the original cast made a return to the franchise for the latest film, including Courtney Cox (Gale Weathers), Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), and David Arquette (Deputy Dewey) returning to their original roles decades after it all began.

The sequel, slated to begin principal photography this summer, will be the sixth installment in the series of slasher movies. Nothing is known about the plot of the film and, in the tradition of the franchise, will likely be kept under wraps for a while yet.

According to Deadline, Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be directing the sequel, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will be the movie’s producers. Executive producers for the Scream sequel include Chad Villella (Radio Silence), Kevin Williamson, and Spyglass Media Group’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

“Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators – and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built – has been the thrill of a lifetime and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life.”

We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family.”
